Sisterz

So this weekend was Meliss' screening of Sisterz in Zion over at Ann Rowlands- a lady in her ward. It was awesome to be greeted by so many friendly faces and enjoy a lovely evening with people I don't normally get to spend time with. We had a little trouble getting the DVD going but after the resolution of these minor technical difficulties, we were able to watch the remarkable stories of the young women Meliss used to teach. This was such a great experience for me to sit by Meliss and watch this. Although I've seen it several times before each time I get something new out of it, and this viewing was no different. I felt my heart reach out for the EFY roomate who wanted to make a new friend, and I realized more about the differences they had even just coming from different sized cities. Not to mention being raised or not raised in the church. It's a remarkable documentary!!

Jordan's Birthday!!

Happy Birthday Jordan!!
One of my favorite Jord stories is when he was first learning to talk - he was about 18 months old...... First, just a little background to the story, going back to before he was born. I was tired of being pregnant... Jordan's due date had passed two weeks ago. Our friends, the Musgraves thought that the best way to bring on labor was to take OJ and I out for Mexican food. So they did. I ate lots of guacamole. And about three hours later, I went into labor.
From that day on, the Musgraves' nickname for Jordan was 'Guac'. He endured it for about 18 months. One day when Pete came over, he knelt down and said to Jordan, "Hellloo Guac!" Jordan, who had not yet spoken in any complete sentence, scrunched up his face and announced, "I not Guac!"

Pete was just a little taken aback, but I noticed from that day on he called Jordan, well - Jordan.
Jordan has been expressing his opinions with good results ever since.

President Hinckley

Greetings fellow bloggers,

Many people in our testimony meeting today mentioned Pres. Hinckley and gave tribute to what a wonderful prophet and leader he was. Bishop Vassau mentioned how he was the first prophet who felt like a grandfather who would be missed by their family.

We watched the funeral and documentary, and several things stood out for me. He wore out his long life in the service of the Master. He began working for the church soon after his mission to the UK in 1930. He started out by writing hundreds of pamphlets and teaching aids for the church. He ended his work by overseeing the building of around 75 temples. I liked the summary of his life from the documentary: he took his work seriously, but he did not take himself seriously. He accomplished an astonishing amount in his life, always keeping his remarkable sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by millions of people. He was a great example to us all.

Warm News from Chile

President Duncan told us about an interesting experience he had this past week. He received a phone call from Elder Jeffrey R. Holland. The Chile Area Presidency gave the annual report to the Quorum of the 12, Presidency of the seventy, and the Presiding Bishopric. The Area Presidency of Chile gave great praise to the Chile Santiago North Mission. Our mission has become a model to all the other missions in Chile. Elder Holland said that when he saw the results of our missionary efforts from this mission, he wanted to get up on the table and dance... So we are setting the example to all the other missions, which is exciting to think about. This past week we were blessed to have many investigators attend the church. Luis said that he was going to arrive to his work late so that he could go to sacrament meeting. It really was incredible, and I hope that his testimony can keep growing along with that of his wife Hortencia.

Anyhow, the Chilean tidbit for the week. Well, this week I cant really think of anything. So ill just share something I like about Chile. I really like Chile in the fact that the people here dont have an abundance of stuff. The houses here are not big, well at least in the area that I am working. I just like the standard that the people have here. They are well off, but they dont have an abundance of stuff like food, clothes, accessories. It really is a great balance. I think Chile is a great example of "temperance in all things." But still living with a comfortable standard.Love you all, and am grateful for your support. Love, Elder Schneider
