So on Monday I was running back in from my lunchbreak and I was just coming back towards the mall entrance when this woman walks up to me. She's like, '...' well, it was in spanish. She busted out in spanish right to me- no 'hablo espanol,' no warning or apologies, she just outright expects that I know the language. As a canadian i spent my prime student years as a french student, and enjoyed the breakfast table review- reading those milk and juice boxes in both french and english. Since i got to LA i have noticed the incredible surplus of Spanish speakers, but I have held to my dream of learning Italian, and am currently working on that. Well, boy did this woman take me off guard! 'Do you know how to get into Macy's?' she asked, which I somehow understood... but could not repeat. Yes, I do- I replied in English.
